So Denmark will finally play in their first competitive fixture since losing to Japan on match-day three of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. What kind of result can they pull out when they host Iceland as they open their Euro 2012 qualifying campaign?

Denmark celebrating against Portugal during a World Cup qualifier. On paper, Denmark should do enough to deny all three points away from visitors Iceland. However, the Danes have team news concerns which they’ll have to deal with on Tuesday.

On the injury front, reports explain that striker Nicklas Bendtner and goalkeeper Stephan Andersen won’t be able to feature for Denmark. Bendtner is once again suffering from a groin injury whereas Andersen had to withdraw due to a shoulder problem.

Besides that, the 2010 FIFA World Cup participants will be without Jon Dahl Tomasson as the captain retired from international football a month ago. It will therefore be Christian Poulsen’s duty to lead Denmark – having been appointed as the team’s new skipper.

As for Iceland, Gretar Rafn Steinsson remains the only casualty in terms of injury. Steinsson’s inclusion on the pitch against the Danes is yet to be confirmed following the knee injury he picked up against Norway last Friday.

Iceland have no point as they lost 2-1 on match-day one. But they were leading 1-0 at a point before succumbing to Norway’s pressure in the second period of that encounter. Their aim against Denmark is to avoid the poor second-period performance that saw them end match-day one of their Euro 2012 qualifying campaign empty-handed.

If they do, Iceland will clinch their first win over the Danes in three European Championship qualifying meetings. It will also mark Iceland's first ever victory away to Denmark in as much as nine clashes. Head-to-head history totally gives the edge to Tuesday's hosts as it reads that Denmark have beaten Iceland fourteen times and drawn tree times only in all seventeen fixtures between the two sides. Will there be another 'usual' result or an upset this time?
