Matt Miazga left the home team with ten players before halftime. David Villa played 67 minutes and left scoreless.

A much anticipated New York City derby had a little bit of everything. Goals, missed opportunities, a red card and lots of excitement. Spanish International David Villa was not able to avoid his team from losing in enemy territory by 2-1 with a brace from Bradley Wright-Phillips included.

It was a hard-fought match, very physical on both sides of the ball. By the end of the game, six players finished the game with a yellow card. Before the first half was over Matt Miazga had already been booked twice, leaving the Red Bulls with only ten men for the final 55 minutes of the game.

The first goal came early in the game from a well executed play by the home team on the right side of the field. They carried the ball with three touches all the way to the goal line so Lloyd Sam came up with the cross and Phillips just pushed the ball into the back of the net.

In the second half, the same player would get his name on the scoreboard once again. This time the player from London was once again at the right place at the right time to finish a quick counter-attack from his teammates. It was the 55th minute and New York Red Bulls was already leading 2-0.

David Villa did not make a difference in a very important night in the Big Apple. He only had once chance to score and it was blocked. The coach decided to take him off and the man who came in for him would be the one to score for NYCFC.

It only took Patrick Mullins seven minutes on the field to score a goal that would give his team some chance of tying the game. A cross by RJ Allen that was well finished by Mullins made the last 15 minutes of the game very intense. NYCFC had not been able to win a game since March 15. The score remained 2-1 until the end.

Their negative streak continues. A man from England took over New York in the first-ever edition of this derby. David Villa's team is now in eight place of the Eastern Conference with six points after ten games. On the other side, the winning team moved up to third place and has 16 points with one game pending.
