Newcastle will come into the match at the back of a crisis having suffered defeats in all of their last five matches. Their recent performances have aggrieved their fan base with a section of the Newcastle faithful set to boycott Sunday's game to express their anger towards club owner Mike Ashley.
Newcastle head coach John Carver is however still determined that his team can end the season on a high and is hoping that his team can produce the goods in the two subsequent home matches.
"They are two home games that are massive for us. There's no doubt about it - we are looking for results by hook or by crook," he said.
"If I cast my mind back to Arsenal, we performed quite well without winning. Now it is all about winning, not about how we perform. It's about the results.
"It is encouraging that we have four at home and two away, but we have to start winning now."
Carver also heaped praise on England international Harry Kane who currently leads the league's scorer charts with 19 goals to his name.
"He's been outstanding. He deserved to get into the England team and it's great to see a young English player doing so well. But we have a more reasonable back four and hopefully they can stem his flow."
Tottenham themselves have not been on the best of runs and have recorded just two victories in their last five matches. They were against Aston Villa last time out a match which was settled through a solitary goal from Christian Benteke. Newcastle won the match during the reverse fixture at White Hart Lane with Sammy Ameobi and Ayoze Perez scoring for the visitors in 2-1 victory. However Spurs recorded a comfortable victory when the two sides met last time out which was in a League Cup encounter as the North London side secured a resounding 4-0 win.
The goals have dried up for Newcastle United who have suffered in the absence of Papiss Cisse with the Magpies having scored just twice in their last seven games. The Senegalese will remain unavailable for the match against Tottenham alongside Moussa Sissoko who received his marching orders in the match against Liverpool. Captain Fabricio Coloccini having served suspension will however be available for selection.
Tottenham on the other hand have doubts over the likes of Hugo Lloris and defender Jan Vertonghen. Should the aforementioned duo miss out star player Harry Kane is expected to continue his services as captain of the side.
