The most popular teams in Mexico had quite a different weekend, with the current champions losing 4-0 against Veracruz while Guadalajara seems to have left behind their relegation problems.

Week 11 of the Mexican Clausura tournament saw how Chivas, one of the most beloved teams in the country, won their second game in a row, building an apparently unsurmountable advantage over Puebla in their hopes to avoid relegation. Former National Team coach Jose Manuel de la Torre seems to have striken gold with his club, and will end up saving El Rebaño of their relegation problems. This week also saw how America's project under Gustavo Matosas suffered a big blow against Veracruz, who destroyed them 4-0 and created chaos around the team.

Veracruz destroyed America's hopes of taking Liga MX's second place by trashing them 4-0

Los Tiburones Rojos took advantage of America's doubts in the back to blow them out of the water. Carlos Reinoso's team dominated the whole game against Las Aguilas, who seemed to have no clue of what was happening on the pitch. After their horrendous display, coach Gustavo Matosas stepped down as the team's manager, but the club's execs did not accept his resignation.

Argentinian striker Julio Furch scored his seventh goal of the season, establishing himself as the leader.

Cruz Azul continued their dominance over leader Tijuana

La Maquina managed to shut up some of their naysayers after winning a crucial match against league leader Tijuana. Cruz Azul had to come from behind to win, since Alfredo Moreno scored just three minutes after the game started. Paraguayan striker Roque Santa Cruz and Christian Gimenez scored for Los Celestes, who climbed to the fourth spot of the standings after their victory. Tijuana has never been able to defeat Cruz Azul since they started playing in the Mexican top flight, having lost four out of their eight games against their hosts on Saturday.

Guadalajara wins their second straight game thanks to Omar Bravo's goal

Las Chivas managed to win one more game at their stadium against Toluca, giving them a good advantage over Puebla in the relegation board. Omar Bravo's second half strike against Los Diablos propelled the club to the third spot in the Liga MX standings, and their playoff chances seem brighter than ever. Toluca's players were not able to cancel Bravo's goal, and coach Jose Cardozo ended up being sent off after staging a rant against the referee.
