Messi agrees there were many great memories made in Brazil 2014. Losing the final seems to be impossible to forget.

Many of us might have already moved on from what happened at Maracana in the final of the 2014 Brazil World Cup between Argentina and Germany. By many, let's not include the players of the Albiceleste, including Lionel Messi.

The Argentinian sat down for an interview with FIFA.com and went over every single highlight of the past World Cup edition. From the first game against Bosnia-Herzegovina, up until the very moment Germany was proclaimed world champion.

“The nerves of the opening game can force you to make mistakes, so it was important for us,” Messi said when referring to the first win of the tournament where he scored.

Cristiano Ronaldo did not reach the final stages of the tournament with Portugal, La Pulga led his team to the final after beating Netherlands on penalties.

“I don’t know if it was my happiest moment, but it was indeed something spectacular, to be able to get to the final,” Messi remembered, stressing that Louis van Gaal and his players were no easy opponent.

But the happiness of reaching the final was shadowed by not coming out on top. After what was a very close game, Mario Gotze scored the most important goal of his career, a goal that gave Germany its fourth World Cup title.

“We’ll regret the chances we had but couldn’t score for the rest of our lives,” said Messi who in the end was awarded as the best player of the tournament.
