A fan of cultured and disciplined sides, Elephants tactician Herve Renard was left unimpressed by their win over DRC, saying that his men did not respect their opponents.

One would have imagined Ivory Coast’s coach Herve Renard being over the top with happiness as his men were able to cruise into the finals of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations courtesy of a sensational victory over DR Congo but this was not the case.

The Frenchman was left rather disappointed at what he termed as his team’s lack of respect for their opponents as IVC put three goals past the Congolese Leopards to record a 3-1 scoreline.

“I did not like this game. We played too easy and did not respect an opponent who fought back to beat Congo Brazzaville in the quarter-finals,” said Renard.

“We did not show enough determination — probably the small crowd did not give us the right atmosphere to do so."

“DR Congo are always a very dangerous team. They were very fast on the counter-attack with Mbokani and [Yannick] Bolasie."

“But the most important thing is we are now in the final and we hope to take the Cup back to Abidjan.”
