Arsenal will have to do without versatile midfielder Samir Nasri for at least a month.

Samir Nasri carried out of the field after sustaining an injuryThe French international picked up a knee injury on Sunday, and it was reported on Wednesday that he would require surgery. This means that Samir Nasri, who displayed remarkable performances for the Gunners during the club’s preseason tour, will miss Arsenal’s next five matches which include a tricky trip to Sunderland in the English Premier League.

A statement from the club on Wednesday read:

“Samir Nasri will today undergo minor surgery on his knee, following a meniscal injury sustained during the match against Liverpool on Sunday. Nasri, who has been in impressive form, will be out of action for a month.”

Arsenal were already without Cesc Fabregas in their lucky 1-1 draw against Liverpool as Coach Arsene Wenger had to deal with injury worries. However, the good news for the Gunners on the injury front is that Swiss player Johan Djourou is expected to return to the field. The player is said to have recovered from his hamstring injury. Johan Djourou will consequently replace Laurent Koscielny who was flashed a late red card at Anfield last weekend.

Arsenal will take on promoted side Blackpool on Saturday, hoping to avoid an upset like Wigan Athletic who surprisingly lost 4-0 to the Seasiders on match-day one of the English Premier League. The Gunners could record their first victory of the campaign then.
