The Mexican striker will be out for two months after coming down with an injury during last weekend's game against Real Madrid

Mexican striker Carlos Vela delivered a huge blow for David Moyes' team last Saturday, when he came down with an injury that will keep him away from the pitch for the next two months, as the club informed earlier today.

Vela has been a key part for Real Sociedad's latest success, scoring goals and assisting his team-mates during the team's uprising under Moyes. While the Mexican striker was away with a foot injury, the Txuri-urdin struggled to win games in the earlier half of the season, leading to Jagoba Arrasate's sacking in December, with Moyes taking the job.

Vela injured himself during the match against Real Madrid, when he was taking steps backwards to control an elevated pass. He was assisted by the team's doctor and made an attempt to keep playing, but minutes later he fell on the pitch leading to his substitution.

The team informed its fans about Vela's situation through a press release.

"Carlos Vela underwent surgery performed by Doctor Mikel Sanchez and his crew. The player will spend the night in the hospital, and without further complications, he could be let go tomorrow so he starts the rehabilitation process. The estimated time for his comeback is variable, although most cases require at least eight weeks," the statement reads.

Real Sociedad currently hold the 13th spot in La Liga, only four points away of relegation spots.
