Just when Ivory Coast were in need of someone to step up and make the difference in the crucial clash against Algeria, Wilfried Bony delivered a stunning performance to minimize the effect of tasliman Drogba's absence.

Quality players perform at the most crucial of times. This is something that Ivory Coast national team coach Herve Renard seemed to firmly understand, given how he had stuck with Wilfried Bony as the spearhead of his attack despite the new Manchester City man not having been as prolific as many people would have expected him to be. Bony, however, repaid Renard’s faith and patience in full, and he did so at an absolutely crucial time.

During IVC’s quarter final match vs. best-in-Africa Algeria, arguably the toughest test of AFCON 2015 for the Elephants, Bony proved his worth, netting twice and giving Algeria’s defenders a torrid time throughout.

Bony’s sublime brace plus full IVC 3-1 Algeria highlights:

By the time Gervinho’s goal arrived to deflate Algerian hearts at the death of the game, Bony’s two strikes had well and truly won the clash for the West African giants.

This put the Elephants into an intriguing semi final clash with DR Congo, who had beaten them 4-3 in Abidjan during the AFCON qualifiers.
