The Gunners easily powered past their hapless opponents despite the absence of Chilean star Alexis Sanchez.

Earlier today, Arsene Wenger's men took on Aston Villa, a team that has been shockingly bad this season. In fact, Paul Lambert's side have scored just 11 goals since the start of the 2014/2015 Premier League campaign.

Mind you, there are several players--Diego Costa, Sergio Aguero and Alexis Sanchez--who all have scored more times than Lambert's entire squad.

Anyway, currently out of the top four, Arsenal needed a crucial win to get their push for a Champions League berth back on track. And much to the delight of Gunners fans, they did just that.

Arsenal's 5-0 crushing of a floundering and limp Aston Villa side now means that they have outscored their opponents in Premier League play by a total of 10 to nil since their loss to Southampton on New Year's Day. And this is the first time that the London powerhouse have won three games on the trot all season.

Mesut Ozil in particular was in good form, with one goal and one assist for the World Cup winner, and interestingly, stats show that the German really likes playing against Aston Villa as he has scored twice and assisted twice against the Villans.

With the second month of the second half of this season's Premier League now starting, the win helped to bump Arsenal up the table and move closer to catching Manchester United who sits in third place.

Not surprisingly fans were celebrating after their team's great performance, especially without the presence of star man Sanchez, who was not even on the bench.
