The last time DR Congo tasted silverware in the Africa Cup of Nations was way back when the country was referred to as Zaire. The Zaire national team conquered Africa in 1968 and six years later in 1974. In total, they have made 15 CAN appearances and will be hoping they can add another trophy to their collection in their 16th appearance this year. As per the FIFA CAF rakings released on January 8th 2015, DR Congo are ranked 13th in Africa and 57th in the world.
How DR Congo qualified for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations
Perhaps the most memorable moment of their qualification campaign is their away victory over the mighty Elephants of Ivory Coast. After a 1-2 home defeat by the same team, DRC went on to trump the Ivorians 4-3 in Abidjan. This result proved extremely vital as The Leopards qualified third out of Group D, just a point behind Ivory Coast and five behind group leaders Cameroon.
