A victim of several bans and disqualifications, Congo have only made 6 appearances in the Africa Cup of Nations to date, taking the prestigious trophy home in 1972. The Red Devils have not appeared in the competition since 2002 but a reorganization of the football management in the country has seen them make it to the 2015 edition. In Africa, they ranked 15th while on the FIFA world list they feature at #61.
How Congo qualified for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations
Congo finished second to South Africa in Group A with 10 points. The highest point in their qualifying campaign was arguably the 3-2 away win over heavyweights Nigeria that helped to dump the Super Eagles out of contention for AFCON 2015. Though the Nigerians got their revenge in the return leg, the Red Devils' double over Sudan secured them a ticket to the showdown in Bata, Equatorial Guinea.
