Current Manchester City player Roque Santa Cruz didn’t manage to make the best of impressions during his first year with the Sky Blues. The Paraguayan now looks set to leave Manchester City and join London club Fulham where he will eventually reunite with his former boss at Blackburn Rovers, Marc Hughes.

Marc Hughes and Roque Santa Cruz - Manchester City PresentationBig spenders City have got busy on the transfer market this summer only to threaten the condition of some players in terms of regular football. For Roque Santa Cruz, it is not clear how he will fit in the Sky Blues’ 25-man squad that will compete in the English Premier League which kicks off this weekend.

Having experienced only 19 appearances in a Manchester City shirt, scoring only 3 goals in the process, the 28-year-old Paraguayan doesn’t have much chance to win a regular spot to partner Carlos Tevez upfront.

Besides, the completion of the transfer of striker Mario Balotelli from Inter Milan looks imminent and thus rings the alert higher for Roque Santa Cruz to quit the City of Manchester Stadium.

The 2010 FIFA World Cup quarter-finalist played under manager Marc Hughes twice in his career. In 2007, the Paraguayan was signed from German sided Bayern Munich to Blackburn Rovers by the former Manchester United player. He enjoyed a remarkable spell at Ewood Park, scoring 23 goals in 57 appearances. In 2009, when Marc Hughes was appointed as the coach of Manchester City, Roque Santa Cruz opted to join the revolution of Abu Dhabi’s Sky Blues for a fee of £17.5m.

Marc Hughes was fired in December 2009 as Manchester City struggled to fulfill their aspiration of breaking into the top four while Roque Santa Cruz suffered a miserable season marked by fitness problems. Reports from the Daily Mail now indicate that newly appointed Fulham boss is keen to reunite with the Paraguayan striker. However, as the Cottagers are believed to be unable to afford a permanent deal presently, Roque Santa Cruz’s transfer may rather be a loan move.
