The Real Madrid attacker was honored for his remarkable goalscoring form this year, as Los Blancos were big winners at the ceremony in Dubai.

After a long, very impressive calendar year for Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, in which he netted an astonishing 61 goals, the most by a single player, the Portuguese star’s achievements were honored at the Dubai Globe Soccer Awards. The 29-year-old Los Blancos ace was handed the 2014 Best Player of the Year prize.

This recognition comes at a crucial time for Ronaldo, just as the Ballon d’Or draws ever closer, with hopes that Monday’s award will better his chances of winning the coveted prize in Zurich on January 12.

The player himself, who thanked the fans through a video posted on the club’s official YouTube channel, expressed gratitude towards being named the Globe Soccer Awards’ Best Player of the Year.

The third time he has collected this award, last time Ronaldo was named Player of the Year, he went on to win the Ballon d’Or a few months later, something Cristiano is hopeful of repeating.

Ronaldo said: "I hope that it can be a good signal but I’m not worried about that. The people who vote know what they have to do.

Ronaldo thanks the fans after being named 2014 Best Player of the Year at the Dubai Globe Soccer Awards

"I just feel happy it’s one more trophy for my dedication and hard work. I want to say thank you to the people at Real Madrid, - the players, the coach - we had a fantastic season, we won four trophies and we are one of the best teams in the world.

“La Decima was a special moment as Real Madrid have looked forward to winning it.

"To win this award is one of the great pleasures, I am very proud."

CR7 and Michel Platini exchange words during the ceremony in Dubai. Wonder what they said?

Ronaldo, however, wasn’t the only one from Real Madrid to be honored at the award show at Atlantis the Palm in Dubai. Summer signing James Rodriguez received the Best Revelation prize, Carlo Ancelotti was handed the Best Coach award, whilst Florentino Perez was named Best President.

And the title of 2014 Best Club? You guessed it, that also went to the 10-time Champions League winners.
