The Paraguayan striker would join the Mexican club after they finish playing in the Club World Cup. Cruz Azul would be the seventh team he's played for.

With some minor details to be sorted out, Mexican club Cruz Azul could be reaching an agreement with Paraguayan striker Roque Santa Cruz to play for them next season. Santa Cruz, currently playing for Malaga, would have a one year agreement with "La Maquina", according to the team's coach, Luis Fernando Tena.

"There's a good chance that Santa Cruz will be joining us. We have spoken with Malaga's directors and things seem to be on the right track. He is a player that needs no introduction, and I think our scouts have done a great job. Let's hope it turns out fine for all of us," Tena stated.

Furthermore, Sports VP Agustin Manzo revealed negotiations have gone smoothly between the clubs, and the former Blackburn Rovers and Manchester City player could be signing his contract before Christmas.

"We have had good talks with his team, they gave us all the permits needed. We have already reached an agreement about his salary, and you could say we are just waiting for him to go to Mexico and sign his contract with us," Manzo added.

Santa Cruz would be joining his seventh professional team. Cruz Azul is currently playing the Club World Cup representing CONCACAF, but their pending task is to win their league, something they haven't been able to do in seventeen years.
