His first goal for the Rossoneri in 622 days, emotion overcame the Italian striker after opening the scoring in AC Milan' 2-2 draw on Saturday

AC Milan attacker Stephan El Shaarawy hasn't enjoyed the best of times over the last year-and-a-half at San Siro.

After netting an impressive 16 goals in the first half of the 2012-13 season, a series of injuries and a dip in form saw the hype surrounding the 22-year-old ace burn out.

Shaarawy then embarked on a long goal drought in which he failed to register a single goal for the Rossoneri in 622 days. This, however, came to an end in AC Milan's 2-2 draw with Sampdoria, and in remarkable fashion.

Shaarawy, who started ahead of Spanish striker Fernando Torres on Saturday, made an impressive solo run at the opposing team's defense before unleashing an unstoppable right-footed shot past the goalkeeper and into the back of the net, awarding Filippo Inzaghi's men a 1-0 lead.

His first goal for his club since Febuary 2013, the Azzurri striker's celebration perfectly summed up the emotion behind the Italian's 10th minute strike, as the AC Milan striker fell to the floor in tears, unable to hold back the waterworks.

Despite opening the scoring, AC Milan were unable to hold onto their lead, finding themselves trailing 2-1 after 51 minutes, needing a 65th minute Jeremy Menez penalty to rescue a point for the Serie A giants.

Saturday's result leaves AC Milan in seventh place in the table, eight points behind league leaders and reigning Scudetto champions Juventus.
