According to reports, Pique would be returning to Old Trafford since this summer's signings have not solved United's defensive issues.

Despite voicing his desire of remaining at Camp Nou, it seems Louis Van Gaal will try to sign Gerard Pique in the next transfer window. Sources indicate United's Dutch manager is preparing a 25 million euro bid for the Spanish defender, who has not enjoyed too much playing time under new Barca coach Luis Enrique.

Last week, Piqué stated he wanted to stay at Barcelona, since he loves the team and the city. United bosses think otherwise, and would be preparing an offer for their Blaugrana counterparts, so the Spaniard can make a comeback to the "Theatre of Dreams."

As you may remember, Gerard Pique joined Manchester United in 2004, spending four seasons as a Red Devil. Nevertheless, Pique was not able to earn a regular starting spot with Alex Ferguson's team, making 12 league appearances. By the end of the 2006 season, he was loaned to Zaragoza on a season-long deal, and was finally acquired by Barcelona before the 2008 season, where he helped Los Blaugranas establish European dominance alongside Carles Puyol.

Club officers know negotiations will not be easy, but Pique has become a priority for Louis Van Gaal, and the player may ponder if a possible transfer may benefit his career on the long run.
