With only a few months remaining before kick-off, the CAF will now turn to either South Africa, Sudan, or Egypt to host the upcoming tournament, beginning January 17, 2015

Morocco have decided to pull out as the 2015 African Cup of Nations host country as fears over the spread of the deadly disease Ebola continues.

The north African country, who were initally planning on holding the upcoming tournament scheduled from January 17th to February 8th, put in an appeal to the Confederation of African Football on Friday asking them to postpone the tournament due to the fears over public health, and the possible spread of Ebola.

The Moroccan government handed the CAF two options in which they would remain as hosts despite the growing threat of Ebola. One would be to either host the 2017 AFCON tournament, push the upcoming tournament a year back to 2016, or risk seeing them pull out as hosts all together.

But with no response coming from African football's governing body, Morocco decided on Thursday morning that they will drop out as hosts, and could now face heavy sanctions and suspensions for the national team and clubs as a result.

"Since CAF rejected all our requests and suggestions then we are forced to withdraw from hosting Afcon 2015 with immediate effect to preserve the safety of our citizens and for that we are prepared to take any consequences that comes with our actions," a close source at the Ministry of Sports had informed Super Sport

With only a few months remaining before the 2015 African Cup of Nations kicks off, the CAF are believed to be keen on holding the tournament in South Africa, who were written down as hosts for the 2017 edition.

Sudan and Egypt are also reportedly interested in opening their borders to their fellow African countries for the continent's biggest football tournament.
