Despite joining this summer, Barcelona staff had some interesting opinions regarding bringing the Belgian defender on board.

Is this going to turn out to be a case of "I told you so"?

This past summer, Barcelona splashed out about £15 million to bring Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen to Camp Nou, and the Gunners promptly opted to replace him with 19-year-old Calum Chambers for just £1 million--or about £16 million. And so far, it appears that Arsene Wenger's men have gotten the better deal as the former captain has yet to make an appearance for the Blaugrana.

Injury prone: The Blaugrana's medical staff weren't so keen on his signing due to his past injury woes

The 28-year-old has been out of since picking up an injury at this summer's World Cup and now interesting reports have come out regarding how some members of Barcelona's camp felt about the signing.

The Catalan giants medical staff has pleaded with the club's transfer officials not to bring him on board due to his injury-prone history, but as per reports, sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta ignored their advice and moved ahead to secure the deal.

Certainly, some Arsenal fans were angry with Wenger for letting him go, but surely they have all moved on as Vermaelen has yet to make an appearance for his new club.
