The club-record signing has yet to find his best form since joining the Gunners last season.

Last summer, Arsene Wenger opened Arsenal's checkbook to splash out £42.5 million to bring in  Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid. So, given the fact that he's the club's most expensive signing to date, the German star has certainly felt the pressure on his shoulders from day one.

However, after a difficult settling-in period, the 25-year-old, who won the World Cup this past summer with die Mannschaft, has yet to really assert himself in the Premier League, which is something that frustrates Gunners fan due to his obvious quality, shown during his time in La Liga and with the German team.

Even more bothersome for the team's supporters is his tendency to go missing in big matches, such as the huge clash with Chelsea last weekend that saw Jose Mourinho's men earn another three points with a 2-0 win. And by contrast, former Arsenal skipper Cesc Fabregas put in a good shift--and has done so consistently--since returning to England after an indifferent spell with Barcelona.

Liverpool icon Jamie Carragher is yet another who has not been impressed with Ozil, who some have said his struggles are due to being played out of his preferred central position as a no. 10 would. He's shown this when deployed in the middle by solid performances against Galatasaray and Aston Villa in the Champions League and domestic competition respectively.

So, if that is his best location, why is Wenger not featuring him there on a consistent basis?

Needs to step it up: Fans and pundits alike are calling for the 2014 World Cup winner to improve his game

As per Carragher, "Everyone knows [Ozil] is better there but last season [he] wasn’t good in [a central location], so obviously Wenger doesn't trust him to play [centrally] in big games."

The retired footballer also went on to add, via his Twitter account:

while also pointing out that Ozil needs to improve drastically and contribute better, regardless of where he is fielded on the pitch.
