Chelsea made clear they are up for greatness in this UEFA Champions League edition. Jose Mourinho's side dominated Sporting throughout the entire game, but were only able to score once against the Portuguese hoops. With tonight's three points, The Blues move up to Group G's first place after two games played.
Sporting's last UEFA Champions League match came five years ago vs Bayern Munich, and wanted to prove their 16 game unbeaten streak at home could give them some credit against the current Premier League leader. Coach Marco Silva's crew were not able to stop Belgian Eden Hazard or Cesc Fabregas, who had a field day tracking down Oscar, Andre Schurrle and Diego Costa, which were not able to finish their chances appropriately.
It took Chelsea 34 minutes to go ahead in the game, after a free kick taken by Fabregas landed Matic's head, who intelligently placed the ball over Rui Patricio to score the game-winning goal. Sporting tried to match Chelsea's capabilities, but were not able to support their will with quality football.
