Wayne Rooney saw the red card after sixty minutes, disrupting United's playing style and further games to come. The Red Devils managed to hold the lead 2-1

Manchester United managed to earn their second straight home victory against West Ham United. With first half goals by Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie, United seemed to be a walk in the park, but just before the halftime break, Diafra Sakho gave The Hammers some hope scoring with a header inside United's box.

Just when things seemed to get better for Manchester United, one of their top players went back to his usual antics. Wayne Rooney saw a red card after sixty minutes, when he stopped a counter attack with a harsh kick to Stewart Downing, giving fans something to rant about. After Rooney's red card, United struggled to defend their lead. Rooney, a key player to Louis Van Gaal's team, may end up missing three games, given it was a straight red card. United's number 10 would miss games against Everton, West Brom and Premier League leaders Chelsea. This action also fuels the doubts among experts and fans on whether he deserves to wear the captain's badge or not.

One of the key moments of the match was a goal by Kevin Nolan in the final minutes of the game, which was disallowed because of a very questionable offside call. After this, West Ham were unable to create danger in David De Gea's box, giving Manchester United some room to breathe.

Rooney's performance was praised and criticized. His great goal did not go unnoticed, but the red card seemed to matter most to United's fans, who had a field day trolling their captain after he lost his temper once more.
