The former England international announced on Wednesday that he is confident that his plans to own an MLS club in Miami will happen.

In an interview given to Bloomberg Television’s Mark Crumpton, David Beckham confirmed that he is still confident that his plans to establish an MLS club in Miami will happen even though the local authorities have twice rejected his stadium proposals.

“Miami will happen,” the former Real Madrid player commented.

“I said I want to bring a team here and I will take a team to Miami. There are speed bumps along the way and we’ve come up against those.”

Beckham’s first two proposals contemplated a stadium located in Miami’s waterfront but the authorities considered this as an “inappropriate location for a soccer stadium.”

With respect to this, Beckham mentioned that they are already looking for alternative sites where the stadium could be built.

“My dream was to have our stadium on a waterfront. It’s not worked out like that and we have alternative sites. It will happen.”

The former Manchester United midfielder supports the current MLS system where there is no promotion and relegation.

“It’s kind of a relief because you know you’re not going out of the big leagues,” he said.
