England will begin their Euro 2016 Qualification campaign with a trip to Basel where they face Switzerland at the St. Jakob-Park on Monday, the 8th of September.

The Three Lions came under heavy criticism despite their narrow 1-0 victory over Norway in the international friendly. The match was highlighted by a record low attendance as many English fans staged a protest in response to England’s horror display at the World Cup.

Hodgson’s men looked destined for another disappointing result but captain Wayne Rooney came to the rescue after expertly dispatching a penalty in the 68th minute to settle the tie. England was nevertheless largely innocuous managing just two shots on target.

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere is one of the young players touted to achieve big things but the youngster is yet to reach his full potential. However the 22 year old has claimed that he has no time to make further excuses and it is vital that he steps up for his club and country.

"There's no point in me saying 'I've got another year to develop'," said Wilshere.

"I'm 22 now. Look at Germany. Mario Gotze won the World Cup for Germany and he's 22, he's my age. It is time to deliver.”

"It is an important season for me, a big season, not just for my country but my club as well. I've had a good pre-season, the first time in three or four years where I've managed to do every single session.”

"I've stayed away from injury, trained here every day. I'm fit and in the gym. It's a big season for me."
England will have a few concerns for their fixture on Monday with Daniel Sturridge ruled out with a thigh strain. There are also concerns over the fitness of defender Gary Cahill who missed training on Friday but is expected to feature.

Switzerland on the other hand will play their first match under new manager Vladimir Petkovic who replaced the departing Ottmar Hitzfeld. The former Lazio manager will have a huge responsibility to ensure that the Swiss remain on the rise and he will be hoping for a positive result against an England side which has struggled as of late.

Pajtim Kasami and Fabian Frei who were absent from Switzerland’s World Cup squad will both return to the side, whereas goalkeeper Marwin Hitz, Benfica defender Loris Benito and Udinese defender Silvan Widmer could make their debuts for La Nati.
