San Jose’s Designated Player is set to miss the next fourt to six weeks after undergoing a knee surgery.

The Californian club confirmed the news on Wednesday via its official website. Matias Pérez García underwent a knee surgery to repair a torn meniscus and is expected to miss a month and a half of action. The Argentine midfielder had an MRI scan on Monday and the decision was made after the severity of the injury was revealed.

Pérez García signed with the Earthquakes on July 31st as a Designated Player. The 29-year-old scored in his debut against LA Galaxy on August 8th but got injured only a week later in his second match for the ‘Quakes’; a 5-0 defeat against FC Dallas. 

Currently in 8th place of the Western Conference, the Earthquakes will miss their Designated Player for the next weeks as they keep their playoff hopes alive. San José will visit Philadelphia on Sunday to play against the Union at the PPL Park.
