Who are the 2014-15 La Liga season promoted teams?

17 teams which participated in La Liga last season will continue to do so this time around and they will be joined by the three sides from the Segunda División. Two of these teams finished top of Spain’s second tier football league. Eibar qualified for La Liga for the first time after picking up a 1-0 win over Deportivo Alavés back in May, whereas Deportivo La Coruña finished second in the Segunda División to claim a place in the top flight after just one season in the second division.

Córdoba on the other hand contested in a play-off against UD Las Palmas which they won to seal a return to the top level after 42 years.

Conversely Real Betis, Osasuna and Real Valladolid finished bottom three in La Liga last season and have therefore been relegated to the second division.

Who will play in the 2014-15 UEFA Champions League?

The Spanish League has been allotted a total of four spots in the Champions League. Recently crowned winners Atletico Madrid will have a guaranteed place in Europe’s top competition and they will be joined by defending European champions Real Madrid as well as four time winners Barcelona.

Athletic Bilbao on the other hand will have to compete in a playoff to determine their place in the competition. Los Leones have been paired with Italian side Napoli in what will prove to be a tricky tie for Ernesto Valverde’s side.

Who will play in the 2014-15 UEFA Europa League?

Spain will have three representatives in Europe’s second most popular football tournament which will also include last season’s winners Sevilla. Los Rojiblancos defeated Portuguese outfit Benfica to clinch the title for the third time.

Sevilla will be joined in the Europa League by the sixth and seventh best sides in La Liga last season which were Villarreal and Real Sociedad respectively.

Who were last season’s domestic cup winners?

It was a three horse race for the league title in Spain last season and it was Atletico Madrid who emerged victorious ultimately. All three teams intensely competed for the top crown and were top of the table during different periods of the season, but it was Atleti who earned the top prize after a dramatic showdown which saw them pick a 1-1 draw against Barcelona in the last match of the season.

Real Madrid on the other hand clinched their 19th Copa del Rey title after beating Barcelona 2-1 at Mestalla, the match was highlighted by a wonder goal from Gareth Bale who scored the winner in the 84th minute. Madrid also defeated reigning champions Atlético Madrid earlier in the competition to book their place in the final.

What are the biggest managerial changes?

The most notable managerial change has been at Camp Nou where Gerardo Martino after finishing last season trophy less was replaced by former Barcelona player Luis Enrique. Enrique who previously managed Spanish side Celta de Vigo was replaced by Argentinean tactician Eduardo Berizzo at the Balaídos.
