The Portuguese international is set to return to his former club for the 2014-15 season.

Nani will return to the Portuguese capital to play for the club where he started his professional career: Sporting Lisbon. The news was confirmed on Tuesday by the club via its official Twitter account. Early on Monday, the club also confirmed the departure of Argentine defender Marcos Rojo to Manchester United.

"Welcome home, @luisnani! #NaniisBack"

Louis Van Gaal keeps adjusting his squad after a tough Premier League start that saw the ‘Red Devils’ losing at home against Swansea for the first time in the club’s history. Nani joins the likes of Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic and Patrice Evra in Manchester United’s summer ‘exodus’.

Nani spent seven seasons at Old Trafford after joining from Sporting Lisbon in 2007. The Portuguese player shined during Alex Ferguson’s era; winning four Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League in 2008. During his time in Manchester Nani scored a total of 25 goals in 147 appearances.

Twitter reactions followed as fans couldn't wait to add a funny touch to the transfer news.
