Last year, with Miguel Herrera as head coach, Las Aguilas were eliminated in the group stage by Costa Rican side Alajuelense.

Azteca Stadium saw last year how Club America lost the chance to represent CONCACAF in the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup. Tomorrow, most of their players will have a chance to redeem themselves.

Raising their fans’ hopes, America has a perfect start in the local tournament, winning 5 out of 5 in the Apertura tournament, as they start their international run with a game against Bayamon FC from Puerto Rico.

This may seem as a walk in the park for Mohamed’s crew, but last year America had the league in the palm of their hand and couldn’t make it past the group stage, after losing to Alajuelense 1-0 at their home field.

Still looking to susbstitute Raul Jimenez, who left for Atletico Madrid, coach Mohamed may use this game to test some of his strikers, and end up deciding if they fill Jimenez’s spot with a foreign player or if they choose to play with what they’ve got.

Moises Muñoz, goalkeeper for Las Aguilas, recognized their debt of honor, having a poor performance last year playing this tournament:

“We want to remain as one of the best teams in our region; we have done it before and we will to do it again. We must take this tournament seriously, because we’ve got what it takes to win it all”, the keeper said.

The match between Club America and Bayamon FC will start at 19:00 local time.
