AZ Alkmaar confirmed on Monday that the USMNT player underwent groin surgery last Friday.

Not good news for AZ Alkmaar and USMNT striker Aron Johannsson as it will take him a six-week period to recover from a groin surgery he had last Friday in Amsterdam.

The 23-year-old underwent his second surgery in a row following an ankle operation he had during last July after the World Cup. Aron made one appearance with the USMNT during this year’s World Cup in Brazil against Ghana, coming on as an early sub for injured Jozy Altidore.

The American player is set to miss the first weeks of the Eredivisie championship as well as the confirmed USMNT fixture against the Czech Republic in Prague on September 3rd. He is also expected to miss the friendly match against Ecuador on October 10th, as he would only be recovering until the end of September.

AZ Alkmaar’s press officer Dan Schippers commented on the injury.

"It was not found that he needed surgery until he was in rehab for his ankle.”

Johannsson has scored two goals with the United States Men’s National Team since his debut in 2013 after playing for Iceland’s youth national teams. He scored 26 goals with Alkmaar in all competitions during last season.
