Former Barcelona boss Gerardo Martino has reportedly accepted the job as Argentina coach, replacing Alejandro Sabella

Argentine and former Barcelona manager Gerardo "Tata" Martino is tipped as favorite to replace Alejandro Sabella as La Albiceleste coach, according to Mundo Deportivo (per Football Espana).

Sabella, who is rumored to have left the helms of the two-time World Cup champions, guided the South American nation to the World Cup final, but lost 1-0 in extra-time to eventual winners Germany.

The 59-year-old Argentina boss had previously stated he would not make a decision about his future anytime soon, but rumors of his resignation broke early on Wednesday.

Martino, who coached La Albiceleste duo Lionel Messi and Javier Mascherano during his time at Camp Nou, will now be tasked with the responsibility of leading the national side in the 2015 Copa America, being held in Chile.

The news of Martino succeeding Sabella was announced by Paraguay FA vice-president, Federico Acosta, who revealed the former Blaugrana manager turned down coaching his country's national side in favor of Argentina.

“Gerardo Martino has already given his word to the AFA [the Argentina Football Association] and will be the technical director,” Federico Acosta said to Radio Cardinal.
