Ligue 1 champions PSG kick start their summer preparations with a trip to Germany as they will face off against newly created side RB Leipzig. In their opponents they will have a team that is very, very new to the footballing arena, having only been founded just five years ago in 2009. Les Parisiens themselves are not exactly the oldest club around either, as they will reach their 44th anniversary this August, and what both sides perhaps have in common is the fact that they are bankrolled by some very wealthy sponsors.
Of course, Laurent Blanc's side have successfully defended their league title, clinching their fourth this past season whereas their opponents are still making their way up the German football ladder. As for their opponents, they are a highly ambitious side. They finished second in the 3. Liga which earned them promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga, and their sponsors speak of ambitions to win a title in the top flight within the next decade, but as to whether that will be feasible or not yet remains to be seen.
Moving away from future speculation to the present, PSG will be without a slew of stars due to their participation in this season's World Cup, but on paper, at least, should have no issue with contending with their German opponents. However, Leipzig's supporters will certainly be behind their team in full force as they hope to test themselves against one of Europe's bigger sides.
