In order to allow their captain to play the semi final match against Germany, Brazil appealed their captain's yellow card.

During Brazil’s last game against Colombia Thiago Silva received a yellow card that caused the player to be suspended for the semi final game against Germany. The Brazilians will appeal the decision in order to allow their captain to play against the Germans.

The 29-year-old is currently Brazil's captain and one f the best centre-backs in the World

However, it is unclear on which grounds the appeal will be made. In fact, Thiago Silva was arguably lucky to finish the game, considering he should have been carded at least three times before the inevitable booking he received when he obstructed Ospina’s kick.

Normally, appeals of yellow cards are inadmissible and are virtually never overturned. FIFA disciplinary code specifically states that cautions can be cancelled only in ‘exceptional circumstances.’ FIFA head of media, Delia Fischer, said:

“I can confirm we have received an appeal from the CBF and this is being analysed.”
