USMNT stars Tim Howard and Clint Dempsey received a call from American president Barack Obama after their impressive run in Brazil

Two USA players were in fr the shock of their lives after USA's World Cup elimination.

Tim Howard and team captain Clint Dempsey, two of the national side's star players of the 2014 World Cup tournament, received a call from American president Barack Obama to congratulate them on their impressive performance.

Jurgen Klinsmann's men were placed in the “group of death” alongside Germany, Portugal, and Ghana. This led to many writing them, claiming they had no chances of making the round of 16.

However, Team America proved the doubters wrong by beating Ghana 2-1 and drawing with Portugal 2-2 to qualify in second spot, finishing only three points behind Germany.

A quarter-finals spot was never meant to be, though, as the CONCOCAF side lost 2-1 to their last 16 opponent Belgium on extra time.

Nevertheless, their Commander and Chief was still proud of their display and made sure to express his pride over their World Cup run.
