Millions of American fans do not know much about football. They call the sport “soccer”, much to the enragement of European supporters. This summer's FIFA World Cup dream is over for the USMNT.
Many in the United States who hardly understand the rules of the Beautiful Game may not bother tuning in to watch the rest of the tournament. However, they will certainly not forget the name of a special player: Tim Howard.
The Everton goalkeeper delivered an exceptional display against Belgium. If it wasn’t for his heroics, team spirit would not have been enough to save USA from pure humiliation. Statistics don’t lie. Howard made a total of 16 saves in the Last 16, the most by any goalkeeper in a World Cup match in 50 years, according to ESPN’s senior researcher, Paul Carr.
Is it any wonder that Twitter went crazy about him during the match? Here’s a compilation of the best tweets and pictures that went viral.

Vailant effort from the US. Tim Howard doesn't deserve to be on the losing side. Belgium too much strength in depth. They could do Argies.

But the United States still lost. So what's next? Oh! Never mind... it was never their #1 sport anyways so European fans better not laugh at the USMNT's brave display in Brazil!
BREAKING: The whole of the USA goes back to not caring about 'soccer' at all.
