Switzerland will be hoping for a positive performance which can guarantee them a place in the next round when they face Honduras at Arena Amazônia on Wednesday, the 25th of June 2014.

Whereas Honduras’ chances of qualifying to the Round of 16 are minimal after they failed to notch a single point in the Group stages, Switzerland can confirm their place in the next round with a little favor from France who play Ecuador in the other Group E tie.

Switzerland were able to pick a win in their opening match against Ecuador but were humbled 5-2 by France in their second match. One man who is expected to make the difference for Rossocrociati is Bayern Munich youngster Xherdan Shaqiri. The 22 year old is recognized as one of the rising stars of the game and despite of being a quality player he has failed to produce top class performances which were expected from him.

The Bayern playmaker has responded to all the criticism hurled at his way and has insisted that Switzerland as a team is responsible for the below par performance against France and that he should not be singled out for criticism.

"We have enough players in the national team that can be decisive. Not just me," Shaqiri said. "It's about the team. Always. I feel very comfortable in the team. What bothers me is that I am criticized much harder when something is not working. I'm exactly the same as everyone else.”

"We have just been totally run over by the French. In the second half we tried to play football. I think to some extent we succeeded," he said. "It's certainly good for morale that we scored two goals.

"It wasn't easy, we had to chase the ball a lot. We were always a step too late. The performance of the whole team was not optimal. Even though I have not scored a goal or made an assist (in the first two games), I am always working. I have created opportunities. For me, the most important thing is that we play well as a team. We did not succeed in this against France."

It would take a miracle of epic proportions for Honduras to somehow make it to the next round of the competition. La Bicolor will have to register a win over Switzerland on Wednesday and hope for France to beat Ecuador. Along with that Luis Fernando Suárez’s men will also need to have a goal difference better than their counterparts, which currently stands at -4.

Honduras’s Colombian manager however has promised that his team will continue to fight for a spot in the next round despite of the odds being against his side.

"It's worth Honduras continuing to fight," the 54-year-old told a press conference. "What we have not lost is the will to fight."

"The good things we did give us confidence," he continued. "But the bad things are what journalists remember. We can only do what we can. Hopefully the players have the awareness of what they have to do,"

Switzerland will have to do without the services of defender Steve von Bergen who will not be able to participate in the illustrious tournament after fracturing his eye socket.  Honduras on the other hand have no fresh injury concerns.
