In an attempt to give his team some confidence ahead of the clash with the World Cup's hosts, Kovac says “we will leave our hearts on the field”

As if the names and pedigree of Brazil and Croatia did not create enough hype, some of the eastern country’s finest released some statements ahead of the clash, which exponentially heightened the anticipation for the 2014 World Cup opener.

Kovac has a great team and is favorite to go through the group-stage with Brazil

While all betting sites give Brazil’s win as a sure thing, Croatia’s coach Niko Kovac feels that his team is capable of surprising the Brazilians. The manager stated:

“We know how to stop Neymar and Brazil. Brazil is not only Neymar - they have a great team, but Croatia also have excellent players.”

Croatia’s coach added:

All those in the team know how nice it is to play for Croatia and how much we love our people. We will leave our heart on the field.”

Kovac is a very solid manager with an incredibly successful career

The two nations met last time during the 2006 World Cup in Germany. Brazil got away with a 1-0 victory in Berlin, but Kovac believes his team can do better this time around. Former Croatia player revealed:

“No surrender - we will attack Brazil! Just as we did in the Serbia friendly. Possession is very important because Brazilians do not like to run for the ball.”

If a player like Modric will be in the right mood, it could be a very long game for Brazil

In addition to Kovac’s encouraging words, Dario Srna, Croatia’s captain, also intervened. The versatile midfielder said:

“I cannot promise that we'll go get a group win or beat Brazil, but we'll give every ounce of energy," he said. "It is a big day for us. All Croatians will be proud. We agree that Brazil is the favourite, but they will not find it easy.”

Croatia's captain vowed to give every game his all
