World Cup winner and German legend Lothar Matthaus claims Arsenal ace Mesut Ozil will not be a guaranteed starter for the national team during the 2014 World Cup competition in Brazil, kicking off this Thursday.
The Gunners midfielder, known as one of the most creative playmakers in the world, had experienced a shaky first season in the English Premier League after securing a record deadline day transfer to the North London side.
Although the former Real Madrid man, signed by Arsene Wenger on a £42.4m deal, ended his debut season at Arsenal with FA Cup glory, the German midfielder has still been the target of criticism, being booed by his nation's fans during Germany's friendly against Cameroon.
Mesut Ozil had a mixed first season at Arsenal
This has German legend Matthaus believing Ozil could miss out on the national side's starting XI in Brazil
"Ozil has no guaranteed place in the starting lineup," Matthaus told Kicker. "Especially in his position as we have a lot of quality. First of all, he must prevail there. He could be the loser if you look at the way Low let his team play recently."
"But you always expect more from him than from other players. I don't think Ozil is untouchable."
