Manchester United apparently have beaten the competition with an astonishing bid for Southampton's Luke Shaw, to scare off Chelsea.

According to DailyMail, Manchester United has recently attempted to beat Chelsea, in the race to transfer Southampton’s Luke Shaw to Old Trafford. Despite the English player being a Chelsea fan, and Ashley Cole vacating the spot, Shaw apparently preferred United to Mourinho’s club.

Luke Shaw had a very positive season with Southampton

The reason is very simple: money. In fact, according to MailOnline and Metro, the Red Devils have offered the 18-year-old a £160,000-a-week deal that is impossible to ignore. The deal should involve a £27M fee to Shaw’s team, and will cost overall approximately £40M, including the player’s £8M-a-year for 5 years, according to Goal.com.

The young Englishman could make the difference for both England and Manchester United

However, Southampton would prefer to not let the youngster go, at least until Pochettino’s replacement has been named. Saints’ former manager left last month to join Tottenham, which caused the deal involving Shaw to be postponed until after the World Cup, in which the young talent already won the personal battle against Cole, but not against Baines, who retained the starting slot.

Despite his 107 caps for Englad, Ashley Cole's spot on the England squad was taken by Shaw

Meanwhile, Man United’s fans ask themselves whether £40M are justified for a teenager, when there is a certain Patrice Evra, who is the starter for the French national team. Luke Shaw is no doubt a promise for English soccer, yet the price-tag seems unwarranted for a player who still requires a lot of work.
