Frenkie de Jong is one of the hottest young players in Europe right now, with a number of top clubs fighting for the starlet's services. Man City is one heavyweight in hot pursuit of the midfielder, but a recent report claim the Citizens look set to miss out on their target.
That is according to De Telegraaf who writes that the 21-year-old prefers a move to PSG over the reigning Premier League champion. This comes after the Ligue 1 giant made their interest in the Dutchman known.
The French club sent a delegation to Amsterdam to meet with officials, which Ajax director of football Marc Overmars later confirmed. Things appeared to have moved very swiftly, with Tuchel's side now ready to met De Jong's $85M asking price.
De Telegraaf writes that PSG's pursuit of the midfielder was sparked by a recommendation from Kylian Mbappe. The French star reportedly advised the hierarchy to go after the Dutchman after being impressed by his performance in Les Bleus' clash with the Netherlands in the UEFA Nations League.

However, nothing is official yet. This means all hope is not lost for Pep Guardiola's side, as there is time for another twist in this transfer saga.
The Citizens, having missed out on Jorginho to Chelsea over the summer, are eager to add a pass-master to their rank, as 33-year-old Fernandinho is not getting any younger. Furthermore, the likes of Bernardo Silva and Ilkay Gundogan have picked up injuries here and there this season, adding more concern to Pep's midfield options given De Bruyne's spells on the sidelines.
