Lionel Messi may have been snubbed for The Best Men's Player Award, but the Argentine was nominated for the Puskas Award. Nonetheless, the Barcelona superstar faces stiff competition in the race to win this prestigious FIFA accolade.

La Pulga's exquisite World Cup goal against Nigeria, his only strike at Russia 2018, made the list of the best goals of the year. The 31-year-old, however, could be staring at an uphill battle to triumph as Cristiano Ronaldo's overhead kick goal against Juventus was also given a nod.

The Portuguese ace's Champions League strike against the Italian giant not only earned him a standing ovation from the Bianconeri fans, but it also landed him the UEFA Goal of the Season award. The reigning Ballon d'Or holder will thus be confident of winning the Puskas for the second time in his career.

Benjamin Pavard was also nominated for his breath-taking goal against Argentina in the World Cup round of 16. The French defender's effort won him the Goal of the Tournament in Russia and is thus another favorite.

Ricardo Quaresma's vintage finish against Iran was yet another World Cup goal to make the cut. Gareth Bale was nominated for his acrobatic finish against Liverpool in the Champions League while Mohamed Salah, who was forced off with an injury in the clash with Los Blancos, was given a nod for his memorable goal against Everton in the Merseyside Derby.
