Although the goalkeeper had claimed that he would hang his gloves by the end of the season, he will try to continue playing for the Old Lady next year.

Walking away from football is hard, and maybe Gianluigi Buffon can still get things done at 40.

Speaking to Italian newspaper La Repubblica, the shot-stopper admitted that the possibility of returning next year with Juventus is there, but it's all up to Juve's president, Andrea Agnelli.

"I'll have a meeting with president Agnelli soon. I want to know what role I could play, and even know if Juventus' execs think I still can make a contribution to the team. I'd like to keep on going, but the best decision has to be made with both parties agreeing to it. I don't want to be a burden to my team-mates or for the club," Buffon stated.

The 40-year-old goalkeeper had stated that he would retire once the 2018 World Cup came to an end. With Italy missing out on the tournament, his perspective changed. What didn't change was his allegiance to the Old Lady, since he's made it clear that if Juventus doesn't extend his contract, he will not play for any other team.

"It's Juventus or nothing. I don't want to be an old man who lies to himself in order to keep on playing for breadcrums," Buffon added.

Buffon has only played for two teams: Parma and Juventus. "Gigi" has played 858 games with his clubs, with 638 of those being played for the Old Lady. He needs to play 19 more games to surpass Paolo Maldini's record of 647 Serie A games, something he could achieve if he extends his contract.
