Marcelo expresses worry over Lopetegui's Real Madrid future

The Brazilian full-back fears for his under-fire boss amid sack rumors.

Real Madrid left-fullback Marcelo has had a say in the ongoing speculations which suggest that his manager Julen Lopetegui is on the verge of being sacked. This comes after the defender saw his side for to a shock 2-1 defeat at the Bernabeu on Sunday.

The defeat which nullified a 116-year-old record was Los Blancos' third in La Liga this season and the club's third in succession across all competitions. Currently, the European champions sit on the sixth position with 14 points after nine games.

As a result, odds have been slashed on head coach of the club Julen Lopetegui facing the axe soon. The news across a host of European media outlets suggest that former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte may be in line to take over from the Spaniard. The reports indicate that the Italian manager has already reached an agreement with the Madrid club to take over should Lopetegui face the axe.

In an interview with beIN Sport following Real Madrid's defeat to Levante, Marcelo questioned the manner in which his side lost and further highlighted the fact that the whole team is behind the manager despite the immediate crisis.

"We did great things today, but the ball didn't want to go in," he stated.

"Record of minutes without scoring? It's a shame because Levante didn't do much other than exploiting our own mistakes. We have tried in every way, 100%.

"It is unfair to evaluate the attackers at the start of the season, even when Cristiano Ronaldo did not score they kept saying that Real Madrid needed a striker. However, then CR7 silenced everyone.

"We are worried, but not afraid. Lopetegui? We are all with him until death! We have to let him work," Marcelo concluded.

Julen Lopetegui's next test will be in the UEFA Champions League when Real Madrid welcomes Viktoria Plzen on the Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday.
