The Belgian is making his return to his former club in Los Blancos' clash with Simeone's men.

Thibaut Courtois makes his return on Saturday to the club where he first made a name for himself: Atletico Madrid. The Belgian shot-stopper has made the trip to the Wanda Metropolitano for the Madrid Derby and has been named in Real Madrid's lineup.

However, it looks like the former Chelsea man will not be in for a warm welcome when he steps on the field. His decision to join Los Blancos, Los Rojiblancos neighbor and rival, was never going to go down well and some have made their feelings known ahead of the derby.

Courtois, who helped Simeone's men to the Spanish Primera Division, Copa del Rey, and Europa League titles during his time there, had his plaque vandalized. While there was no mention of Atletico Madrid fans being the culprits in a report by Marca, one could easily come to that conclusion.

Not only was his honorary plaque vandalized, but abusive messages and toy rats were also left there. One does not need a wide imagination to realize what was meant by the latter gesture.

Courtois may have sealed his dream move to the Bernabeu over the summer, but things have not gone well in his debut season. A shaky defense has seen the custodian concede more goals than desired and thus sit third in the table as a result.

However, the trip to the Wanda Metropolitano could see Solari's men leapfrog Atletico into second spot. Only two points separate the two Madrid giants but Benzema and Co. must first secure a win for that to happen.
