Both Fiorentina and Roma will be hoping to keep their hopes of silverware alive as they lock horns in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

Current form: Fiorentina vs Roma

Neither Roma nor Fiorentina have had the strongest of seasons, and thus the Coppa Italia represents both sides' only realistic chance at clinching any kind of silverware this term. Although the Giallorossi are still afloat in the Champions League, they are not expected to replicate their same impressive run from last season, which saw them beat Barcelona along the way to making it to the semi-finals. Fiorentina, for their part, have been desperately trying to position themselves to remain competitive for at least a Europa League spot, but as things stand, they find themselves in a rather disappointing ninth spot, hovering around the fringes as consistency continues to elude them.

The Viola come into their Coppa Italia tie having won just one of their last four Serie A games, and their defensive frailities have have cost them time and time again as they barely hung on for a 4-3 victory over bottom-placed Chievo. Roma, meanwhile, have been solid enough in the league - albeit not so great in their travels - and sit in fifth place ahead of this game. Next up for the Lupi is a crunch clash against AC Milan in a battle for fourth spot and they will want to build up some positive momentum heading into that game.

How they got here: Fiorentina vs Roma

Both Fiorentina and Roma's journeys in the Coppa Italia began in the the round of 16 as each side finished in the top half of the table in Serie A. The Viola picked up a straightforward 2-0 win over fellow Serie A side Torino to book their ticket to the quarter-finals, while the Lupi cruised to a very comfortable 4-0 victory over third-tier side Virtus Entella, who were still hanging on with hopes to proceed deep in this competition.

The winner of this quarter-final will face reigning champions Juventus (or perhaps Atalanta if they manage a highly unlikely upset) in the semi-finals.
