A sense of euphoria has swept across the Manchester United fan base with reports on Friday claiming that Anthony Martial is on the verge of penning a new deal at the club. The Frenchman is said to be on the verge of signing a five-year contract which will extend his stay to 2025.
Back in December 2018, Anthony Martial reportedly refused to sign a new deal with the Red Devils while Jose Mourinho was in charge. In the past, there was a reported rift existing between the pair and the apparent fallout was believed to have been the part of the reasons why the ex-Lyon attacker was reluctant to commit his future to Manchester United.
As a result, the club was forced to trigger an option in Martial's contract, extending his stay at the club to 2020 although he would have potentially been a free agent by the end of this season. Having continued negotiations, Sky Sports, on Friday, confirmed that Manchester United has finally made a breakthrough in the talks with the Frenchman.

Anthony Martial is currently among a host of players who have found their mojo back following the arrival of new interim manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. As a member of the attacking personnel that has fired the Norwegian manager to a historic six successive wins since he took over, the 23-year-old attacker's importance to the side cannot be understated.
In the ongoing campaign he has managed eight goals in 17 appearances, making him the highest scoring player at Manchester United at the moment. As a result, it comes as very little of a surprise that fans have lauded the club's decision to hand the player a long-term contract.
While the development comes as good news, fans of the English outfit are now looking forward to seeing David De Gea also handed a long term deal. The Spanish goalkeeper is likely to stay at the club for least another 18 months after they activated an option to extend his present contract.
Below are a few reactions from fans on Twitter after the unofficial news of Martial's new contract broke:
Anthony Martial signing a new 5 year contract is everything we needed. 6 wins in a row and one of our key players of the future signing a new long term contract. 2019 has started very well. Now for De Gea!

Mourinho really tried to get the club to swap Martial for Willian because he wanted to be at the birth of his child. Man, I'm so happy we've come through those dark times. 5 more years of Toto. A legend in the making!
