The Gunners saw their 22-game unbeaten run brought to an end at the St Mary's Stadium on Sunday.

Arsenal fans have launched a scathing attack at German midfielder Mesut Ozil for his performance in the shock defeat to Southampton on Sunday. The Gunners approached the Premier League encounter on the back of an unbeaten run which dates as far back as August 18.

While it was expected to be a comfortable cruise for Unai Emery's side against a lowly-placed Southampton side, the Emirates outfit was met with the dismay of conceding first in the proceeding via Danny Ings. The former Liverpool forward then assisted Nathan Redmond for the Saint's second in the 40th minute after Mkhitaryan had grabbed the equalizer in the 28th minute.

Mkhitaryan restored parity again in the 53rd-minute before Charlie Austin grabbed the game-winner in the 85th-minute. Throughout the encounter, Ozil's impact was barely felt in the attacker for Arsenal.

The midfielder also saw his miseries compounding as it was his mistake which led to Austin's late goal which subsequently ended Arsenal's longstanding unbeaten run. Having frequently been on the fringes in recent times under Unai Emery, the 30-year-old former Real Madrid stalwart was heavily slammed by fans following the end of the game.

Sunday's defeat saw Arsenal stay three points adrift fourth-placed Chelsea. The Gunners are now 11 points behind league leaders Liverpool after 17 matches.
