The Portuguese ace tried to force his departure from the Spanish capital one year before he eventually joined Juventus.

Cristiano Ronaldo shocked the world a few months ago with his transfer to Juventus, but he could have done an even bigger impact if he had joined Milan one year before that.

Speaking in an interview with Sole24Ore, former Milan Sports VP Marco Fassone revealed how the rossoneri's former owner, Yonghong Li, tried to lure the player away to the Italian city after a meeting with the player's agent and friend, Jorge Mendes.

"Mister Li wanted Cristiano to play for us, because he was aware of the impact it would have in the Chinese market. The player was looking for a way out of Real Madrid, which prompted us to have a meeting with Jorge Mendes in July of 2017," Fassone said.

Then, the former footballer admitted that even if they tried hard to sign the Portuguese star, the cost for such an operation was not easy to accomplish for the rossoneri club.

"Mendes told us the cost of trying to sign Cristiano back then. Once we knew the amount we had to spend, I convinced Misrer Li to abandon that dream: Cristiano was simply too expensive," Fassone added.

Cristiano Ronaldo was allegedly interested in leavig Real Madrid for what he feeled to be a lack of interest from the team's board. Eventually, Juventus would meet his wage demands and sealed the most expensive transfer in team history.
