Buffon reveals reasons to support Boca Juniors in Copa Libertadores final

The Italian goalkeeper was linked to the Argentine club this summer, but the former Juve goalie played those rumors down.

Gianluigi Buffon is quite interested in the upcoming Copa Libertadores final. The Italian goalkeeper may have never played for any of the teams involved, but he surely has picked his favorite team to take the trophy home.

Speaking in the post-match interview after a 1-1 draw against Napoli, Buffon pointed out that he wants Boca Juniors to win the coveted South American title. "Gigi" wants Los Xeneizes to lift the title against their bitter rival because he knows a man that would be quite happy to beat River Plate in this showdown: Carlos Tévez.

"For the relationship I have with Carlos, I hope that he can give that joy to his people. We lost a UEFA Champions League final together, I hope that he is able to make his supporters happy this time," Buffon said.

The Italian footballer denied being close to joining Boca Juniors this summer as some newspapers said, but PSG's goalie admitted that if Tévez had asked him to join the blue-and-yellow side, he would have considered a move such as that one.

"Honestly, no one from the team's office called me directly. I can say that I am a friend of Carlos Tévez, he's a kid I love dearly. He was a generous leader at Juventus. For me, he will always be a great friend, even if we don't talk as much as we'd like. So, if he had needed me to play for Boca, I would have been tempted to make such a crazy move," Buffon added.

Boca Juniors and River Plate will lock horns in the first-ever Copa Libertadores final between Argentina's most popular teams. The first leg is set to take place on November 10 at Boca's stadium. The second leg is scheduled to be played on November 24 at Monumental Stadium, River's home.
