The three clubs maintained their undefeated streaks in the English domestic league over the weekend.

Manchester City, Chelsea, and Liverpool have matched a record that was set in the 1978/1979 league season with their current unbeaten run in the ongoing campaign. For the first time in 40 years, three top-flight teams have successfully avoided defeats in 11 consecutive matches.

Currently leading the pack is a Manchester City side that has so far replicated last season's domineering run. The Citizens ensured that their impressive start remained immaculate by cruising to a 6-1 victory at home to Southampton on Sunday. As a result, Pep Guardiola's team usurped Liverpool to occupy the top spot with 29 points – the product of nine wins and two draws.

Furthermore, Chelsea's 3-1 win over Crystal Palace in Sunday's game demoted the Reds to third place. The Blues, under the management of Maurizio Sarri, have recorded eight wins as well as three draws.

While the London club has excelled considerably in attack with an overall goal tally of 27, it has also kept things tidy at the back by allowing in just eight goals in the 11 games played so far. These numbers are only bettered by Manchester City's ratio of 33 goals scored as against the four goals conceded.

On Saturday, Jurgen Klopp and his Liverpool band could have enjoyed a better status than Chelsea. However they were denied all the three points as a result of a late goal by Alexandre Lacazette which canceled James Miner's opener in their trip to Emirates Stadium. With the spoils being shared, Liverpool – who is tied on points with Chelsea – took its number of wins for this season to eight alongside three draws.

Still, a lot could change in the upcoming weekend with Chelsea set to host Everton at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. Relatively, Manchester City will also welcome a resurgent Manchester United team to the Etihad on the same day.
