Chelsea will look to maintain their strong record against Southampton when they travel to St. Mary's Stadium on Sunday, October 7th.

Match Preview

Chelsea have had an excellent start to the season and will be looking to take advantage of the fact that either Liverpool or Manchester City - two sides ahead of them in the table - will drop points as a result of their head-to-head clash later on Sunday. Since the start of the season, Maurizio Sarri's men have lost just one game in all competitions. That was a 2-0 defeat to Manchester City in the Community Shield, while they have also drawn their last two Premier League games against West Ham and Liverpool.

Currently, Tottenham sit ahead of the Blues having played on Saturday, but a win against Southampton would lift the Blues back into first spot ahead of the Manchester City-Liverpool tie. The visitors come into this game having earned a narrow 1-0 win over Hungarian outfit Videoton thanks to a goal from Alvaro Morata during which Eden Hazard came in as a substitute, but the Belgian star is expected to feature as a starter here.

Hazard, who netted the opener against Liverpool, is currently the Premier League's top goalscorer with six goals in seven games and will be looking to add more to his tally against struggling Southampton, who have won just one of their first seven games. Last season saw them struggle badly against Chelsea, as they lost 2-0 versus the Blues in the semi-finals of the FA Cup as well as ended up being defeated 3-2 at St. Mary's after blowing a 2-0 lead.

Cesar Azpilicueta, David Luiz, Antonio Rudiger and Marcos Alonso were all rested midweek as Sarri made some big changes for Chelsea's Europa League tie and are expected to return to the fold for this fixture, while the hosts are hoping to have key striker Shane Long back in the starting XI.
